The Encounter
Unconscious inside a dream Clearly I saw a hand reaching for me A tear force itself to my senses, Pressing against the current My lonely breath torn between And illusions of a silhouetted walking on a dance of roses Thinking of a dense reality Bringing me back to the carousel of life Tearing me apart was the last kiss of goodbye Fearful for the two souls inside of me I began to speak an ancient tongue Reveals the fire inside of me, hear me loud and clear The road has pull me back Through a shower of darts fill with venom Closely I laid my ear to the ground Waiting for the typhoon of uncertainties The silence whisper of melodies running through clouds And then she stretch her hand of desire, But my eyelid couldn’t see the beauty inside of her heart I stood in silence facing and eloquent mirage Waiting for my heart to beat again…

So Divine ©2009 Robert Burnham (I told the one I wrote this for)
I still want to dance with you Feel your breath on mine Taste your sweet neck So divine Lost in your aroma As I was so long ago To listen to your heartbeat That song I too well know Memories of your fingers Still caress my mind And then your kiss So divine I honestly love you On the radio Your eyes above me Where they were so long ago To pick your fruit To sip your wine I remember how we danced So divine So divine But gone with time

"I am one of God's creatures. Pets like me are abandoned, abused and neglected everyday. I've had to develop survival skills on the streets. I drink from gutters and eat out of garbage bins. The numbers of my friends in shelters is staggering (6-8 million in the U.S.). Only about half of us will find homes. If you find me, I may bite or bark at you because of fear. My heart breaks because no one wants to take me home. They just keep walking by. Why don't they ever stop to say hi? I cope by crying alone in my cage at night. I bark and howl at the moon when the person who feeds me is absent. I continue to breathe and will even do tricks to impress you. That should prove I'd be a good pet for a new kind master, right? Do you believe in Heaven? Pray for my brothers and sisters or many of them will be euthanized. We all need caring, gentle homes. I sure could use proper nutrition and some exercise. Oh, and a comfy bed would be really nice! I'd truly thrive with your attention and affection. Look into my eyes- please adopt me today!"
I rescued a stray Australian Cattle Dog pup today. She was malnourished, thirsty and scared. She may have been injured, but also had a seizure. Since I already have two dogs, I had to call animal control. The shelter supposedly works hard to get their incoming dogs adopted. Let's hope! Thank you for reading, Jen

Day five started out on the wrong foot for us. We woke 10 minutes before the bus was to come, and clearly were going to miss it. With no cab fare here and no car, Gideon stayed home. It’s just as well, really, we had a busy night and he’d have had no time to play as it was. So, we had a mommy Gideon day, which was fine by me.
If anyone has younger kids doing NaNo, feel free to add him as a buddy. He seemed to like the idea of friends all doing this together. :) Sammie got Write or Die’s desktop edition and reported back to me how it was. Needless to say I, too got it and it’s great. Hopefully she will stop in here and giver her success report of how well she did on it last night. I, too did quite well with it. I made my goal of 10K and PASSED it. Considering that I had a slow start to the day this was really impressive work. Needless to say, I, too will back Write Or Die. Get it. Best $10 you’ll spend. (and it amuses the kids when it punishes you, LOL!) I was punished once when Gideon needed some help and he was all curious what that sound was. Haha. Clint just doesn’t get why we writers want to be stabbed in the bottom with pitchforks.
How are you all fairing as we finish out week one and head into the week two blues? Comments: 4| view all » comment on this post »
Good day everyone and yes Friday is here. For most of us Friday is a day we gently flow into and yes for other it may be moire frantic. What ever the flow and pace I wish you all a blessed day, full of joy, gratitude and smiles! Choose we do, all of us how we share our smiles, if we smile and when. A smile in my heart is the single most powerful expression we can share in an instant with another.
Full of joy, full of hope a smile has a great range of power. I hope we all use it from the first impression we give ourselves in that mirror to the first person we see during our daily routine. Smile and flow with joy and hope into your Friday today. Yesterday after I posted here on Gather, Make ME Smile Online and Facebook, I checked my email. In that inbox I found a post regarding a fellow Gather member who passed away.
I did not ever get to know Rob Appell who passed away Tuesday but as I read some of your comments and the post he wrote on losing his leg and the struggles. His attitude was everything in that post and in much of his life. I read more this morning and feel like I missed, it is so hard to describe here. But I feel like I missed out on knowing someone who knew how to make the best out of a bad situation, no matter what. I like that in a person. Life is short and reading more about Rob's accomplishments, as a writer, a poet, a on air radio personality, a business owner. His works will speak on as volumes for others to admire. We can only hope to have such strength, and hope. So today as we flow into our Friday, take a minute, one of those 1440 we all have in our days. Send a prayer up to heaven and give thanks to God for sharing Rob Appell with us. I wish I knew him more........ Rest in peace Rob! Enjoy your final home! Till next time..... May you all have a smile, and peace!! www make me smile online dot com. Comments: 11| view all » comment on this post »

Pot acceptable? Not for young and nonwhite
By Stephen Gutwillig, Special to CNN November 5, 2009 9:05 a.m. EST ![]() STORY HIGHLIGHTS Editor's note: Stephen Gutwillig is the California state director of the Drug Policy Alliance, an organization working to promote alternatives to the federal war on drugs. Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- This year is a watershed year in pot politics. The Obama administration recently announced it would defer to state medical marijuana laws and stop federal prosecutions of patients and providers who comply with them. In California, the tanking economy inspired Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to call for debating marijuana taxation and regulation, a bill was introduced in Sacramento to do just that, and four separate ballot initiatives are circulating to allow voters the chance to decide the issue for themselves. Schwarzenegger's position was echoed by New York Gov. David Paterson and by Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, who suggested legalizing pot could cripple Mexican and U.S. gangs. The unprecedented momentum to question marijuana prohibition is being fueled by a widely remarked-upon phenomenon -- the cultural mainstreaming of marijuana. From Showtime's established hit "Weeds" to the "Is Pot Already Legal?" cover of Fortune magazine in September, marijuana is commanding attention and an odd kind of respect for its sheer popularity and massive revenues. Marie Claire magazine and the "Today Show" profiled "stiletto stoners," stressed-out women professionals who unwind with a doobie instead of a cosmo. And in a recent style feature, the Los Angeles Times gushed that "cannabis culture is coming out of the closet," citing its ubiquity across the spectrum of pop culture and high-end design. "It's here to stay," the Times proclaimed. Pot is indeed flourishing in the mainstream as never before, but the sometimes giddy discussion overlooks a sinister parallel phenomenon: More people are being arrested for pot crimes than ever; they are increasingly young and disproportionately nonwhite. In 2008, the police arrested 847,864 people nationwide for marijuana violations, according to the 2008 FBI Uniform Crime Report. Pot arrests represent fully half of all drug arrests reported in the United States. The overwhelming majority -- a whopping 89 percent -- were charged with possession only. Most striking, the marijuana arrest rate in the United States has nearly tripled since 1991. More people are being arrested for pot crimes than ever; they are ... young and disproportionately nonwhite. --Stephen Gutwillig, California state director of the Drug Policy Alliance Examples from both coasts illustrate this. In California, according to the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, crime arrest rates have generally plummeted statewide from 1990 to 2008 by an average of 40 percent. Drug possession arrests for everything but marijuana collectively fell by nearly 30 percent. But during that same 18-year period, arrests for marijuana possession in California skyrocketed 127 percent. In 2008, more Californians were arrested for pot offenses than any year since decriminalization took effect 34 years ago. Similarly, New York state decriminalized simple marijuana possession in the 1970s. But under Mayors Rudolph Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg, New York City has become one of the marijuana arrest capitals of the world -- 40,300 arrests last year. In the years between 1997 and 2008, the NYPD made 12 times as many pot possession arrests as in the previous 12 years, according to a study by the New York Civil Liberties Union. How can the notion that marijuana is "here to stay" coexist with these rates of marijuana arrests? Apparently because the people caught in the crossfire aren't considered part of the mainstream. In California, African-Americans are three times as likely as whites to be arrested for a pot crime, according to the Center for Juvenile and Criminal Justice. If you're young and nonwhite, you are especially targeted. The increase in marijuana possession arrests of California teenagers of color since 1990 is quadruple that group's population growth. In New York City, blacks and Latinos -- who represent about half the city's population -- accounted for 86 percent of everyone charged with pot possession in 2008. The NYCLU report says federal studies show young whites use marijuana at higher rates than blacks and Latinos. Supporters of marijuana prohibition often argue that few possession busts lead to incarceration. First, that argument ignores the countless parolees and probationers sent back to jail and prison nationwide for failing drug tests or being caught with a joint. And it seriously diminishes the lifelong stigma any criminal conviction has for many young people of color, whose educational and professional opportunities are severely curtailed as a result of racist enforcement. Getting caught with a joint means being photographed, fingerprinted and permanently entered in the vast criminal database. Apparently marijuana serves as a gateway after all, feeding young people into the criminal justice system and on to a marginalized adulthood. Widespread discussion of everyday marijuana consumption is helping turn the tide against decades of failed marijuana prohibition. However, too much of that conversation is ignoring the people most impacted by our punitive policies. We must end pot prohibition and stop the massive number of arrests and biased enforcement that are at its core. The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Stephen Gutwillig. Two aspects of art therapy:
Art is a measure of our health, those of us involved with creativeness. To be able to produce work we find pleasurable, worthwhile and satisfying emotional and aesthetic needs are gauges of our "performing" well. When this feeling of gratification is stifled, either self-inflicted, psychologically or otherwise, we can be said to be blocked and as discomfited as being constipated. Sometimes therapy is called for; if fortunate the bloc passes and work can go on. When we are in good estate--physically, psychologically, and creatively--this is indeed a blessing, indication and proof of our good health. We know of those who, against all obstacles and odds, are still able to produce their art, perhaps even their greatest, most powerful work. Some even feel suffering is a requisite of great art. I think most will agree, however, that for artists and creative people, to be able to produce work is well being. To not be able is misery, a psychic dark night of the soul. Best wishes to all in their creativity. Do good work. Be well. Your work presents the world with your gifts, as artists do. Aloha,

You've provided GOOD INSIGHT for us all Frank. I enjoyed your WISE WORDS. I especially liked this part . . . "I think most will agree, however, that for artists and creative people, to be able to produce work is well being. To not be able is misery, a psychic dark night of the soul." ~ Frank Luke SO TRUE. When our "gifts" and "talents" FLOW in such a way as to show us LIFE as it was meant for us to SEE, and to "feel" the WONDER of it all, then WE have tapped into the Spirit within. HOLY is this place within, and BLESSED is the output thereof. ~ René Allen
